Welcome to Six Disciplines’ Collaboration Software! Here we introduce you to key concepts behind the software’s design and simple tasks to help familiarize you with the system.

  • Watch The Basics of Planning. This video introduces you to how plans, goals, projects, and actions work together in the Six Disciplines Management System.
  • Watch General Navigation and then complete the following exercise.

    EXERCISE: Complete this exercise in the Training Instance.
    1) Click on 3 bar menu also known as a “hamburger icon” and select “My Plan.” Explore the template of an Individual Plan.
    2) Click the blue “+” in the upper left, select “Project” and click “New.” Name the project “Test Project,” assign it to yourself, save, and click the back arrow to return to your plan.
    3) From the 3 bar menu, click “My Actions” to open Action Manager.
    4) Click the blue + sign to add a test action. Explore the elements of an action. Title the action “Test Action,” select any time for the action to be due, and save.
    5) Open “My Meetings” from the main menu. Select “DEC 2018 Coach Training” and click “Open.” Click the back button until you return to your plan.
    6) Click the magnifying glass icon to open “Search.” Click “Projects” and type “Remote Training”. Select “Week 1 Remote Training DEC2018,” click “Details” and then “Actions.” Select “Navigation Exercise” and click “Complete.”

  • Watch Individual Plan. In this excerpt from our DIII Operational Alignment workshop, Gary explains the role of Individual Plans in the Six Disciplines Management System.
  • Watch How to Manage Your Individual Plan and complete the following exercise.

    EXERCISE: Complete this exercise in the Training Instance.
    1) Open “My Plan” and find the project “Pre-Training DEC2018” in your “New Items” section (inbox).
    2) Drag the project to the current quarter projects section (Ex: Q4-2018 Projects).
    3) Click on the project row, click “Check-In,” change the status from “Proposed” to “Complete.”
    4) Now drag “Week 1 Remote Training DEC2018” to the current quarter. Doubleclick the blue “?” in the status column and change the status to “Green.”
    5) Click on the project “Test Project” (which you added in the previous exercise) and select “Remove.”
    6) Click the blue “+” in the upper left, select “Goal” and click “New.” Name the goal “Sales Revenue” and change the status to “Proposed.” Click save and return back to your plan. Drag the goal to the “Goals” section.
    7) Now add a new project. Name the project “Close First Client” change the project type to “Quarter” and the status to “Green.” Click save and return to your plan. Drag the project to “Q1-2019 Projects.”
    8) Select the project “Week 1 Remote Training DEC2018,” click “Details” and “Open.” Now click the lightning bolt icon (Actions) for this project. Select “My Plan Exercise” and click “Complete.”

  • Watch Self-Check-In. This video is from our DIV Teamwork Driven Execution workshop. Gary explains the principles behind the self-check-in and why it is important in your workflow.
  • Watch How to Complete Your Weekly Self Check-In and complete the following exercise.

    1) Go to your plan and select the first item (it should now be your “Sales Revenue” goal) and click “Check-in.”
    2) Add at least one action item that comes to mind to “Sales Revenue” from the check-in form (remember, the lightning bolt is how you navigate to actions), name it, give it a due date, and assign it to yourself. Click “Save” and go back until you return to the check-in form for “Sales Revenue.”
    3) Click the blue next arrow “>>” to go the next item in your plan. Add any comment.
    4) Again click the next arrow to move to the next item (the system autosaves when going to the next item). You should now be in the “Week 1 Remote Training” form. Change the “Percent Complete” to “80%” and the status to “Yellow.”
    5) Click the next arrow until you see the notice “You are on the last item.” Now go back to your plan, click the print icon, and select “Self Check-in.” Your Self Check-in report will be emailed to you.
